I wish I had a really impressive reason for why I haven’t updated in over a month, but I don’t. The truth is that I got busy with my externship and the tail end of school. Then the batteries in my camera died, and I kept telling myself I’d change them tomorrow… and tomorrow… and tomorrow. Well, tomorrow finally came. I changed the batteries, uploaded my pictures, and am all ready to write!
I turned 23 on Wednesday and the past two weeks has been a blur of birthday celebrations as I tried to squeeze in a party with friends, one with family and then the actual day itself. Because I have no idea how to structure this, I’m just going to post the pictures and let them speak for themselves. Except for my captions. We all know how I love a good caption.
My birthday dinner was at Carmine’s. My friend Chrissy behind me got the waitress to bring me this snazzy comp-ed cake. It was all sorts of delicious.
After dinner, we headed to my party at Fado’s. The bar reserved a huge area for me, which then had me immediately worried I wouldn’t fill it and would be that girl who overestimated how many people actually like her. I filled the area, though! So, yay!
A birthday is not complete without a good cake. While this cake was not from my actual birthday party, it is the one that I made for my family. I was planning on making something super fancy, and then decided at the last minute that I didn’t want to have to buy eighteen ingredients, half of which I’d probably only use for the cake, so I down-sized my cake expectations. I ended up going with a basic yellow cake with chocolate frosting, and it turned out really well. Everyone took home extra pieces, so I’d say it was a success!
The cake is from Annie’s Eats, and she explains the whole process better than I ever could. I also unabashedly took my cake styling from her blog. What can I say, the lady has some serious cake styling flair.
Anyhoo, it feels good to be back on the blog and I promise the wait for the next update will not be nearly as long as this! So, please stay with me!!
Happy birthday, friend! Glad you are back to blogging! I’ve missed reading your thoughts and recipes. 🙂 And I’m so glad you had a wonderful birthday! 🙂
Aw, thanks Rach!! It feels good to be back 😀
Happy birthday!! Looks like a great way to celebrate. Also? You have serious cake skills…I wouldn’t have been able to replicate that half as well as you did!
Thank you so much!! I must have a steady hand! lol
Yay birthday celebrations! I actually thought you were making Smitten Kitchen’s Birthday Cake. She styles hers very similarly. It’s a simple but really fun presentation! Clearly I need to always have sprinkles on hand.
I haven’t seen that cake actually, but I do love Smitten Kitchen. And, yes, it is ALWAYS good to have sprinkles on hand 😀
